Remington Defense division announced that production is starting to fill an order from the Department of Defense for 443 Precision Sniper Rifles (PSR) chambered in .338 Lapua Magnum and 446 PSR caliber conversion kits in both .300 Win. Mag and .308 Win.

Remington Defense is also providing the US Marine Corps 2,000 modular stocks, spares, and magazines for the M40 Sniper Rifle.

FN America Awarded US Army Contract

FN America [FN Herstal] has been awarded a new indefinite contract by the Department of the Army to build M240B, C, D, and H machine guns and spare receivers. The contract includes four one-year ordering periods not to exceed $84.6 million.

FN has produced more than 2 million firearms for the US Armed Forces since 1989 at the Columbia, South Carolina factory. FN also produces M4/M4A1 carbines, M16 rifles, MK19 grenade machine guns, M249 SAWs and the MK-46 and MK48 machine guns.

The M240 series machine gun has been used by the US Armed Forces since the late 1970s, mostly by the infantry with modified models used for ground vehicles, watercraft, and aircraft. It has been a reliable medium belt-fed machine gun that fires 7.62mm (.308 caliber) ammunition issued with an extra barrel. They are known for their quick-change barrel system when barrels get too hot. It is usually fired from an integrated bipod, a vehicular mount, or an M192 tripod. The updated M2 tripod is mostly used by the US Marine Corps. It has a maximum firing range of 3,725 meters (4,074 yds) and uses a non-disintegrating DM1 or disintegrating M13 linked belt. The rate of fire is 750 to 950 rounds per minute, a gas-operated, open bolt system.

One day after the 2015 SHOT Show ends the Beinfeld Las Vegas Antique Arms Show begins that includes the Firearm Engravers Guild annual show at the Riviera Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas. It runs from January 23^rd to January 25^th.

In The News: December 2014

Comedian Jay Leno was scheduled to appear at the annual dinner of the National Shooting Sports Foundation 2015 SHOT Show in Las Vegas on January 20^th. He gave in to pressure from the Michael Bloomberg funded Mom's Demand Action anti-firearm group when they organized a social media campaign against Leno. Shannon Watts heads the group and has armed security people protecting her, just as Bloomberg has his security people. Watts has been caught lying in several interviews. Watts also has said that open carry in restaurants is an example of anger and hatred of women – and other nonsensical statements. In the following video Watts will not respond to questions by Loesch because she said she was insulted by Blaze – but has frequently, in her hypocrisy, has wrongfully accused others, insulting anyone who do not believe that Americans have Second Amendment rights, as shown in this video:

I have always liked gizmos and gadgets, it seems a lot of males do for some reason. The world of electronics has come a long way over the decades with all sorts of bells and whistles – and a growing price tag. One could live with that if the quality remained the same as, say, thirty years ago. But overall it has not.

My mother had a toaster that lasted for twenty years and a coffee maker (early Mr. Coffee) that lasted almost ten years.

Today I threw out my coffeemaker that lasted a little over two years before the electronics went haywire. I am replacing it with an old fashioned peculator, since the toaster hardly two years old was shorting out. What good is the UL Approved symbol when manufacturers don't make quality products? It may have been one that slipped by the inspector, but I think it just was not made to last.

Since the advent of the cartridge ammunition its measurement and description of size of the ammunition has been caliber (calibre), sometimes confusing to the new shooter.

The caliber is the internal diameter of the barrel as well as the diameter of the projectile, called the bullet. Calibers of firearms are also referred to in millimeters, originating in Europe – now used by US military to keep standard ammunition amongst the NATO armed forces.

Smith and Wesson: M&P-22 Compact Semiautomatic

Despite .22 caliber ammunition being in short supply, Smith & Wesson has launched their newest rimfire pistol, a semiautomatic streamlined for concealed carry.

The new pistol weights under one pound, 15.3 ounces, and is a polymer pistol that Glock has made popular. The dimensions remain similar to the M&P 9 and M&P 40 compacts, just a minute smaller in overall length. It is a way of providing a compact firearm that is cheaper to practice with than the larger one and directed towards women who want to conceal carry without the big kick of higher caliber firearms. Only drawback is that .22 ammunition is on back order, for the most part, but S&W has thought about that.

In 1985, the US military replaced the Colt M1911 .45-caliber pistol with the Beretta M9, 9mm NATO. Soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan complained about the lessened power of the 9mm compared to the old reliable .45ACP.

H.R. 2247: Collectible Firearms Protection Act is a bill sponsored by the dynamic, active constitutionalist representative in the House for Wyoming - Cynthia Lummis. It has been in committee since June 4^th, 2013 and now over a year later has not been processed by the committee.

One hundred and three years ago John M. Browning introduced a firearm that revolutionized handguns throughout the history of the world and was the standard firearm of the United States Armed Forces until recent history. The M1911 uses the same cartridge, the .45 caliber ACP (.45 ACP) that the Thompson machine gun (M1928) used, and that too is also produced today as a semi-automatic carbine. It continues to be produced in legendary numbers in different configurations with improvement on accuracy as time went on. The 9mm semi-automatic pistol has taken its place, first introduced by the Germans as a military caliber of choice, infamously used by Nazi military personnel in the 1930s and 1940s. The 9mm, like its bulkier adversary, the .45 ACP, was used in submachineguns like the MP38 and MP40, once again, used by the Nazi military personnel as a favored military assault weapon, used from 1938 to 1940.

In the last article I covered what you thought was the ultimate rifle as far as technology … think again.

Back in the fall of 2013, just in time for the January 2014 SHOT Show in Las Vegas debut, TrackingPoint introduced to the world a rifle that is computerized making everyone an expert at the range and hunting field. The first prototype was created in March of 2011 by John McHale, Founder-CEO of TrackingPoint. The cost runs from a kit for an assault rifle starts at $10,000. Like modern jet fighters and helicopter pilots, the rifle has a HUD (Heads Up Display) that indicates and calculates range, wind, and has zoom capabilities as well as Wi-Fi connections, a compass and battery life readout. You can record images on your smartphone or tablet from the scope (to a computer) and even transmit via email or social media. You can record that great shot you made of a Grizzly bear at 1000 yards or show just how accurate your five-shot grouping can be.

H.R. 2247: Saving the M1 Garand Rifle

H.R. 2247, Collectible Firearms Protection Act was created because of the recent Obama move against firearms by not allowing M1 Garand and M1911 firearms to be imported. These historical firearms are favorite of gun collectors and the M1 is a favorite at competition events.

This action will also hurt the Civilian Marksmanship Program. Those operating the ATF are stating that these imported firearms from countries who are phasing them out for more modern firearms is a safety measure.

Surplus firearms create a more affordable market. Collecting surplus and old military weapons is an American tradition. 


Obama has done it again - using executive orders to further his anti-Second Amendment agenda.

Call your representatives and senators in Congress and get this bill passed. Especially in the Senate. Election 2014 is just around the corner, so remember how poorly [or how well] your congressional members have acted during their last term. Clean out Congress of Progressives and RINOs and get constitutionists back into Washington.

Thompson/Center Arms [Smith & Wesson] has identified a possible problem where the safety lever in certain rifles may bind preventing the safety from becoming fully engaged. Closing the bolt may move the safety to the fire position. The problem seems to be in the sear, an important part of the firing mechanism.

The Venture model T/C rifle produced from August 1, 2011 to October 28, 2011 may not have been manufactured to specification involving the sear. Smith & Wesson offers the rifle to be returned for inspection and, if necessary, replacement of the sear.

However, Thompson/Center [Smith & Wesson] has initiated a recall to allow for inspection and, if necessary, the repair of each rifle. To determine if your rifle is affected, refer to serial number list located at:

NOTE: Any unintended discharge of a firearm has the potential to cause injury, so it is best to stop using the rifle until the sear has been inspected. When you return your rifle to Smith & Wesson [Thompson/Center], be sure to attach the completed information card received from Smith & Wesson, so your sear can be inspected and repaired/replaced; as well as return the rifle to you as quickly as possible. When your rifle is returned, you should see a punch dot on the trigger assembly. This is confirmation that your sear has been inspected and any possible hazard was not found and thus not corrected.

If I am going to discuss the M1911, then I must introduce the genius of its design and several other types of firearms – pistols, shotguns, rifles, and machine guns.

John Moses Browning, January 23^rd 1855 to November 26^th 1926 was born in Ogden, Utah and was an American firearms designer who developed military and civilian firearms, cartridges, and gun mechanisms that are still used around the world. When it comes to automatic and semi-automatic firearms, he is still the king with 128 firearm patents credited to his name. He made his firearm at the age of 13 in his father's gun shop, and was awarded his first patent on October 7^th 1879 at the age of 24. Browning was a great influence in almost all categories of firearm design, inventing or improving the single-shot, lever-action, and slide-action rifles and shotguns; as well as pistol bolts and shrouds and pistol slides. He developed the first gas-operated machine gun, the Colt-Browning Model 1895. He also designed the M1911 pistol, the Browning Hi Power pistol, the Browning .50 caliber machine gun, the Browning Automatic Rifle, and the Browning Auto-5 that was an original semi-automatic shotgun.
