Holiday Hunt in Wisconsin

The Holiday Hunt for anterless deer from December 24^th to January 1^st, 2015 will soon begin in the Southern Farmland Zone in Wisconsin.

This is the first year antlered bucks will not be harvested during the Holiday Hunt that includes archery and crossbow hunters.

All hunters, except waterfowl hunters, must wear blaze orange during the hunt.

Theodore Roosevelt: Naturalist and Outdoorsman

If you had known Theodore Roosevelt as a child, sickly and suffering from asthma and poor eyesight, one could never imagine him growing up to be come a proficient big-game hunter, outdoorsman, leader of a military unit, to become the 26^th President of the United States. He was also an accomplished author, his best known work being The Winning of the West, published in four volumes. He was a charismatic man that gained the love of the public, who stated upon his departure from the White House at the end of his presidency:

I do not believe that anyone else has every enjoyed the White House as much as I have.

Nicknamed “Teddy”, a stuffed toy bear was named for him by a toymaker after a cartoonist portrayed Roosevelt with a bear cub. 

Wisconsin Fishing-Hunting Report - September 2014

Despite the strange weather cycle, angling has been pretty good this season with still a couple of months to go before bitter cold sets in and local fisherman put their boats in storage for winter; some will then prepare for ice fishing expeditions.

• Denise Dombeck-Kalscheur, caught and released her first Muskie, 46-inches, using a bucktail lure on the Wisconsin River near Wausau, July 1^st. Her husband, Dan Kalscheur, caught and released a 44-inch Muskie with a bucktail as well on July 1^st. 

Wisconsin Legislature Passes Crossbow Bill for Hunters

Great news for Wisconsin hunters!

AB-384, the Crossbow Bill, just passed WI senate in a unanimous voice vote. The bill will go to Governor Walker for signing. 

No longer will crossbow hunting be restricted to people age 65 or older and/or handicapped hunters. Hunting permits will be established for resident and non-resident hunters as soon as the bill is signed and reaches the database so hunters can get their crossbow license.

No doubt this will increase the sales of crossbows, previously only able to use in target practice and prepper inventories.
