CMMG is offering an AR platform rifle
that has the features of the AK-47, a hybrid: Mk47 Mutant.
While the idea of chambering an AR
platform rifle with AK47 7.62x39mm rounds is not new CMMG has
engineered a hybrid rifle that has the ease of takedown of an AR
15/M16 with a receiver designed for the 7.62x39mm cartridge that has
more range/power than the 5.56mm/.223 caliber.
It has a beefy
AR-10 carrier designed for .308 Win and 7.62mm NATO ammunition so it
can take the ballistics of a 7.62x39mm. It weighs less than the AK-47
and uses standard AK-47 magazines that rocks into place. The magazine
release is the AK paddle type and uses steel, polymer and Bakelite
magazines due to a replaceable steel support pin.
The Mk47 Mutant has a two-position
safety lever on the left side just above the grip. The trigger is a
single-stage with better than average mil-specs with a 5 lb., 14 oz.
Trigger pull. It cycles crisp and cleanly.
Components include shoulder stock,
mil-spec buffer tube assembly, grip, trigger group, gas tube, has
block, and threaded muzzle. The AKM version has a six-position
adjustable shoulderstock and an MOE grip. The muzzle is fitted with a
CMMG SV Brake to reduce muzzle climb with a weight minus accessories
and magazine at 7 lbs. 5 oz.
