National Security: Time To Take It More Seriously

Bill Gertz is the Senior Editor of The Washington Free Beacon and National Security Columnist for The Washington Times. He also has a website entitled The Gertz File.
He has been with the Washington Times as a columnist for 27 years and is author of six books, four of them being national bestsellers. His latest book [The Failure Factory] examines the out-of-control bureaucracy the US federal government is undergoing and is an unofficial primer for the Tea Party movement for limited government in accordance to the US Constitution and the end of tyranny of the IRS

Mr. Gertz was head of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service and was known as the tool of the CIA after he wrote an article exposing Russian intelligence operations in the Balkans. But he has been objective when researching or investigating intelligence matters and a senior CIA official once threatened to have a cruise missile fired at this desk after he wrote a column that was critical of the CIA's analysis of China – of which he has become a recognized expert.
The Chinese communist government has criticized him for news reports where he exposed China's weapons and missile sales to rogue states. The Chinese state-run Xinhua news agency identified Bill Gertz in 2006 as the number one “anti-China expert” in the world.
Gertz insists that he is not anti-Chinese and respects the Chinese people, but opposes the totalitarian communist government system that has and is threatens world peace and dreams of world domination in which in the past twenty years the United States has aided indirectly.
Former Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld once told him:
You are drilling holes in the Pentagon and sucking out information.
Indeed, he has an impressive information network.
Recent Chinese aggression and economic dominance has been pinpointed in the South Pacific, reminiscent of Imperial Japanese aggression prior to December 7th 1941.
In recent news, reported on December 13th 2013, a Chinese naval vessel tried to force a U.S. Guided missile warship to stop in international waters.
The guided missile cruiser USS Cowpens, which recently took part in disaster relief operations in the Philippines, was confronted by Chinese warships in the South China Sea near Beijing’s new aircraft carrier Liaoning, according to officials familiar with the incident. … A State Department official said the U.S. government issued protests to China in both Washington and Beijing in both diplomatic and military channels. … Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, recently called China’s new air defense zone destabilizing and said it increased the risk of a military “miscalculation.China’s military forces in recent days have dispatched Su-30 and J-11 fighter jets, as well as KJ-2000 airborne warning and control aircraft, to the zone to monitor the airspace that is used frequently by U.S. and Japanese military surveillance aircraft. The United States has said it does not recognize China’s ADIZ, as has Japan’s government. … Chinese naval and air forces also have been pressing Japan in the East China Sea over Tokyo’s purchase a year ago of several uninhabited Senkaku Islands located north of Taiwan and south of Okinawa. … In addition to the Liaoning, Chinese warships in the flotilla include two missile destroyers, the Shenyang and the Shijiazhuang, and two missile frigates, the Yantai and the Weifang. … The encounter appears to be part of a pattern of Chinese political signaling that it will not accept the presence of American military power in its East Asian theater of influence...
China is seeking to control large areas of international waters—claiming they are part of its United Nations-defined economic exclusion zone—that Locklear said cover “most of the major sea lines of communication” near China and are needed to remain free for trade and shipping. … President Barack Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to seek a new type of major power relationship during a summit in California earlier this year. However, the exact nature of the new relationship remains unclear.
So much for the promised Obama transparency that he accused Bush II of not implementing.
Bill Gertz has consistently predicted events and circumstances that threaten the national security of the United States and free nations. In his book, Treachery: How America's Friends And Foes Are Secretly Arming Our Enemies, written in 2005 candidly looks at the growing problem of arms proliferation. Since Obama took office the federal government has been making secret pacts and dealing arms and US dollars with enemies of the free world – part of Jihad. So, America is in danger from two fronts: Chinese communists and Jihadists, both of which have successfully infiltrated US infrastructure, especially in the last five years. It is quite easy with the open border policies of this administration and the previous administration refusing to enforce immigration laws and ensure that the border between the US and Mexico are secure.
Gertz has warned Americans in his book, Enemies: How America's Foes Steal Our Vital Secrets – And How We Let It Happen. Written in 2006, the holes in our national security was revealed in the Clinton administration and on up to the Bush administration. It is all alarming information, but reliable.
American leadership have been warned by internal State and Defense Department personnel, but usually is blown off. Gertz has reported this consistently and was the first to report about a Chinese submarine secretly sailing undetected within 5 miles of the US aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk in October of 2006. He revealed the evidence as to how Russia covertly aided Saddam Hussein in removing weapons from Iraq in order to make GW Bush and US intelligence look incompetent and appearing to be warmongers. He was also one of the first to report the details of the North Korean government and its US currency counterfeiting program.
Bill Gertz continues to be a guest lecturer at the FBI National Academy, the Central Intelligence Agency, the National Defense University, the Brookings Institution, as well as John Hopkins University and other invitations by educational institutions and think tank organizations.
His educational background includes English literature at Washington College, journalism at George Washington University and was awarded the Western Journalism Center award for investigative journalism in 1999; as well as other awards.
The Washington Times awarded Bill Gertz an award for excellence in achievement. He can be reached at The Washington Times at 202-636-3274 if anyone is interested in having him as a lecturer.
The following is a statement made by Bill Gertz as a National Security Reporter for The Washington Times after his appearance on July 24th 2008 in a federal court hearing:
Today's hearing shows that First Amendment press freedoms are under assault. Confidential sources are the lifeblood of a free press, independent of government control. Without them, most government failures and abuses of past decades would have gone unreported and uncorrected. The identity of these confidential news sources must be protected if our press freedoms, fundamental to the effective functioning of our democratic system, are to endure. Efforts by government to compel reporters to disclose news sources must be resisted.
President BH Obama has fired or forced into retirement leading US armed forces leaders recently and more recently he allowed five US aircraft carriers to be docked together – something that has not been done since the Pearl Harbor attack in December 7th 1941 for obvious security reasons.
It should not be a requirement for a candidate who wants to campaign for President of the United States [or VP or member of US Congress] to have served in one of the branches of the US Armed Forces – but it certainly helps. It is most important that a president has such experience or at least ensures that he has a responsible advisory staff [that he listens to] when he conducts his/her role as commander-in-chief in order to make responsible decisions regarding the armed forces and its personnel, national security, and required foreign actions. However, it IS vital that all candidates for the President and Vice President and members of Congress be required to undergo a security background check just as anyone who would have access to sensitive and classified information. A former FBI agent stated in 2008 that BH Obama would never have qualified [passed a background check] because of his associations, mysterious holes in personal history, as well as his character via personal history.
President Obama has weakened our armed forces through politics, reduced funding, and eliminating responsible leadership for “Yes” men.
The United States must quit fighting other nation's wars; but at the same time maintain a strong and efficient defense system that can react to emergencies anywhere in the world. Our navy and air force must still patrol as a deterrent and as part of national security – but we need to quit sending our armed forces into hot zones that does not directly concern our national security. It is not affordable in terms of lives or funding – and not constitutional. War must be declared in Congress; and the requirement for the commander-in-chief to have a three-month window to utilize the armed forces in emergency situations is something that keeps us safe. However, the American people and our nation can no longer sustain the expense, nor should they sustain casualties, for the wars of other nations. The first President of the United States was adamant about this, and most of the framers of the US Constitution frowned upon a standing army that went beyond national defense.
The Chinese government and its armed forces are nothing but clever schoolyard bullies. They are stealing real estate that Japan bought. They are infiltrating nations by means of economics and aggressive trade, and can easily keep their prices for merchandise lower than others because of their literal slave labor. They are stealing Japan's “lunch money” and when protests are made, threatening repercussion with their military might. That military might jumped, technologically speaking, when the Clinton administration allowed the Chinese to steal our technology and every administration since has been sleeping on watch and/or ignoring the danger signals given by people like Bill Gertz. America has been consistently invaded by illegal immigration and amnesty provided by Congress and approved by presidents never had cured the problem – a lesson learned since the Reagan administration. Politicians, for the most part, know this, but ignore it; and they ignore it because it means a large voter base if people who have broken our immigration laws are afforded what used to be sacred: citizenship.
Onyango Obama has been an illegal resident since his student visa expired in 1970; yet recently a family seeking political asylum and were here legally were refused to be allowed to stay. Actually, two families are being persecuted by the Obama administration: one from South Africa and the other from Germany. The Obama administration and the US Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals has denied the Romeike family from Germany who sought political asylum and wished to home school their children wants the Christian family deported. [see also Global Dispatch]
Yet the same administration ignores Jihadist fifth-column organizations and the multitude of Islamic training camps in United States to remain as well as siding with the Muslim Brotherhood [home and abroad] and providing arms and funding to Jihadists.
Folks, there was a serious problem before Obama came on the scene, he and his compatriots have just made it worse, despite promising otherwise. Continually following failed policies and ignoring and diluting the US Constitution when none of it has solved issues and created worse problems – is insanity.
We cannot become an "island unto itself" like we attempted prior to US direct involvement in WWII, but our leadership has the tendency to wait until the enemy is strong before it does something and thinks that it is the job of the US to decide conflicts and involve US in civil wars. Strength in defense as Ronald Reagan stated is what will keep us strong and responsible foreign policy is what will make nations respect the United States again.
It is time, it has been time, to save our republic before it is too late.
