This recipe was inspired by Lake
Geneva Meats in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin – a well-known
meat market, who also has great recipes, some can be found on
YouTube.
It has become a tradition to serve a
“Surf-N-Turf” dinner for New Year's Eve at Lake Geneva Meats.
Since I love Surf-N-Turf meals, I thought I would include this
recipe with a Lake Geneva Meats video (end of article) to add to the recipes I
am posting for the upcoming holidays. The pair of recipes that follow
can be a dinner for two on any special occasion.
Here is a Surf and Turf recipe for two,
for couples who enjoy both beef and seafood. The Scallop Spinach, Fennel, and Grapefruit Salad can also be added to
this meal.
This Surf-N-Turf recipe is filet Mignon
and shrimp. The video recipe following this one is for lobster and
Ribeye fillet. Both are served with a baked potato and salad of
choice.
Surf-M-Turf
For Two: Grilled Filet Mignon and Shrimp
1
tablespoon olive oil
1
tablespoon butter, melted
1
tablespoon finely minced onion
1
tablespoon white wine
1
teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1
teaspoon lemon juice
1
teaspoon dried parsley
1
teaspoon seafood seasoning (Like Old Bay)
1
garlic clove, minced
1/8
teaspoon ground black pepper
12
medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
2
(4 ounce) filet Mignon steaks
2
teaspoons olive oil
1
teaspoon steak seasoning (I use Montreal Steak Seasoning)
- Whisk 1 tablespoons olive oil, butter, onion, wine, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, parsley, seafood seasoning, garlic, and black pepper together in a bowl; add shrimp. Toss to coat evenly. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for flavors to blend, at least 15 minutes.
- Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat and lightly oil the grate. Coat steaks with 2 teaspoons olive oil; sprinkle with steak seasoning.
- Cook steaks until they are beginning to firm and have reached your desired doneness, 5 to 7 minutes per side. An meat thermometer inserted in the center should read 140 degrees F. Transfer steaks to a platter and loosely tent with a piece of aluminum foil.
- Remove shrimp from marinade and grill until they are bright pink on the outside and the meat is no longer transparent in the center, 2 to 3 minutes per side.
The
next recipe for two, Surf-N-Turf is for indoor cooking and can be
made for a New Year's Eve romantic dinner for two. Serve with a salad
and your favorite wine. Try the Twice Baked Potato recipe as a side dish.
